Some staircase designs incorporate period features of the house. In the staircase pictured above, we retained the property’s original listed staircase structure including the patinated treads and risers. The heritage features are both protected and revealed through a glass balustrade which also supports a contemporary banister.
Some staircase designs can be completely contemporary, which can either contrast with period features in a property or create a dramatic design feature in a more modern house.
What are the safety features for a bespoke staircase?
As well as creating a stunning design feature, all staircases must comply with Part K of the building regulations, which controls: steepness; safety at the top and bottom landings; security and details of the balustrades; and a host of other detailing issues.
